1901 Waltham Vanguard 23j

1901 Waltham Vanguard 23j

This movement was originally manufactured in 1901 by the Waltham Watch Company outside of Boston. The Vanguard was one of Waltham's highest grades, and Waltham used its precision machining and production prowess to sell the Vanguard for a reasonable price despite its beauty and quality.

This excellent condition piece features checkered and waved damascening, the iconic Waltham split style nickel plated bridges, 23 precision cut ruby and sapphire jewels, gold jewel settings, gold gilt lettering, a gold starwheel regulator, adjustment to 5 positions, and adjustment for temperature.

The blued steel, whipped spade style hands point to bright, serifed Arabic numerals with a red 5-minute track in the outer margin. The original dial is lightly worn, double sunken enamel. This movement is one of 61,009 made.
