Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 563 unique: We’re pleased to feature this one-of-a-kind piece of American manufacturing history initially released by the Illinois Watch Company — the Springfield 563. This unforgettable watch displays an aged cream-colored dial with dark spots along its outer edge near its stylish black numerals. You can also see the piece’s intricate center design pattern abutting its dark gray diamond kite watch hands. Finally, the front of this handsome watch features a helpful subdial that complements the dial’s style. We provided this pocket watch with high-quality protection by encasing it within our Machined Titanium case, and we topped it off with a bold copper crown. On the back of the watch, you can view its original 274-grade open-face movement with a Going barrel, nickel finish, and pendant setting. This sophisticated movement also boasts gold-plated gears as well as 21 sumptuous jewels throughout its ¾ plate. To tie the piece together, we equipped it with our comfortable, artisan-designed Natural leather watch strap, making the complete product even more rugged and stylish.

The Illinois Watch Company originally manufactured this pocket watch in Springfield, Illinois, in 1923 — the same year that Coca-Cola invented the first six-pack. The company came up with this idea to encourage consumers to purchase more cokes and bring them home. This marketing tactic proved highly effective, and after prohibition was repealed ten years later, breweries quickly adopted the strategy.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
