Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 478 unique: Today, we are proud to present this watch from the Illinois Watch Company — the Springfield 478. Our favorite elements of this piece include the bold-type numbers, the mossy flecks across the dial, and the unique, blue hands. Overall, this watch features a simple dial design, which brings out the other features beautifully. Our Machined Titanium case gives the piece a luminous appearance to draw your attention in and explore the small details. Now, let’s take a look through the clear display case to admire the 17 jewels, screw-set with bronze and the gold-plated gears. On the bridge plate, you’ll see the words “The Deluxe” masterfully inscribed. Without a doubt, this watch earns that title. Lastly, our Moss Leather strap accentuates the light brown flecks on the dial wonderfully. This watch was originally built in Springfield, Illinois, in 1922 — the same year the U.S. Supreme court unanimously declared the 19th Amendment (which gives women the right to vote) to be constitutional.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
