Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 579 unique: Today we are incredibly pleased to bring you another stunning one-of-a-kind piece from the Illinois Watch Company, our Springfield 579. Yet again, we see a beautiful movement that was likely originally housed in a six-sided case, as opposed to a standard round. We love the design on this dial face combined with these aged gothic hands and classic Arabic numerals. The copper and gold elements throughout this watch contrast nicely with this sandblasted titanium case and nickel finish on the build plates. Gold-plated gears and 17 screw-set jewels complete the look and give this watch a clean and vibrant look. Our oxblood cordovan strap completes the look with a soft and elegant feel.

This watch was originally produced by the Illinois Watch Company in Springfield, Illinois in 1927. In this same year, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. On May 20th, he took off from Long Island, New York, in a single-engine plane called the Spirit of St. Louis, and 33 hours later he landed in Paris. His daring feat captivated the world and made him an international celebrity. He was awarded the Medal of Honor and the French Legion of Honor for his accomplishment. Lindbergh's flight was a pivotal moment in aviation history, and it opened the door for faster and more efficient air travel.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
