Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 588 unique: We are proudly introducing this incredible timepiece that has been redesigned from a pocket watch for the modern age, our Springfield 588. Crafted from an antique 21-jewel Illinois Watch Company pocket watch, this unique timepiece is a one-of-a-kind statement piece. The machined titanium case and gold-plated crown create a look that is both classic and modern. Paired beautifully with this rustic and well-aged dial that is nicely pronounced by gold numerals and hands that are sure to draw you in and grab your attention. The intricate gold-plated gears are visible through the sapphire crystal window on the back, giving a glimpse into the inner workings of this remarkable timepiece. 21 stunning jewels can also be seen set into this large 3/4 build plate that reads Time King to signify the grade of this rare watch. Our black cordovan leather strap completes the look, providing a luxurious feel and adding a touch of sophistication. This remarkable timepiece is a true testament to the craftsmanship of the past, being originally produced by the Hamilton Watch Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1928.

Also in 1928, the United States saw the passing of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, which raised import tariffs on over 20,000 goods. This act was seen as a major cause of the Great Depression, as it led to a decrease in international trade and a decrease in global economic growth. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was met with criticism from both domestic and international sources, and it was eventually repealed in 1934. Despite its negative effects, the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act is remembered as a major event in US economic history and a cautionary tale of the dangers of protectionist policies.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
