Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 590 unique: We are very excited to present to you this beautiful timepiece originally produced by the Illinois Watch Company in 1907, our Springfield 590. This design is something that we always love to see when we can get our hands on it, and really love how it came out in this stunning dark case. The dial of this watch is in the style of the Sangamo Special, a highly sought after railroad grade watch. The dark gothic numerals, with red minute indicators around the outside, and distinctive gothic text in the center are all calling cards of the larger 16 size version of this watch that we love dearly. We accented the look with our nickel-plated crown and hardware, as well as going with this merlot strap to bring out the red from the dial. As we turn this watch over we are absolutely stunned by the fine details that have been used to craft this amazing watch. 21 stunning ruby jewels with copper settings and nickel hardware, along with gold-plated gears make for a truly pleasing work of art.

This watch was originally manufactured by the Illinois Watch Company in Springfield, Illinois all the way back in 1907. In this same year, the world saw a major milestone in the history of flight. On December 17th, Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first successful powered flight in an airplane, ushering in a new era of transportation and exploration. This remarkable feat was made possible by their years of hard work and dedication, and their success has been a source of inspiration and hope for generations of innovators and dreamers. The Wright Brothers' flight was a major step forward in the history of the world, and it is a testament to the power of human ingenuity.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
