Watch Description

What makes the Boston 002 unique: Today, we’re pleased to showcase this elegant piece of American history that was originally manufactured by the American Waltham Watch Company at the beginning of the 20th century — the Boston 002. This handsome antique watch displays a sophisticated dial with stylish black hour numerals and vivid red minute numerals that look especially stunning against its pristine white background. The face also features blued steel spade & whip watch hands as well as a matching subdial. We encased this breathtaking piece within our larger 49mm Machined Titanium case and topped it off with a nickel-plated crown. On the back of the watch, you can view its historic Maximus-grade open-face movement with a Church 1892 regulator, Breguet hairspring, and pendant setting. The watch’s stylish and intricate movement also features an engraving that reads “Maximus” and boasts gold-plated gears and 23 stunning jewels throughout. Finally, we paired this one-of-a-kind American watch with our comfortable Merlot leather watch strap, making the final product even more fashionable.

The American Waltham Watch Company initially released the Boston 002’s pocket watch in Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1900 — the same year that the first modern automobile show was held in the United States. The Automobile Club of America sponsored the event and held it at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event lasted a week and featured 31 stunning cars, including a prototype designed by Ransom Eli Olds, inventor of the Oldsmobile. Olds’ company, the Olds Motor Vehicle Company, was briefly the top-selling car company in the United States in the early 20th century before the Ford Motor Company dominated the market.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Waltham Watch Company. We call this model "The Boston" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as American Watch Company and American Waltham Watch Company, Waltham was one of the leaders in attempting an entirely new concept, machines making machines. Prior to this, a watchmaker would hand-make each part of a movement one-at-a-time. Operating from 1851-1957, Waltham called its product the "Scientific Watch." Waltham's innovative, precise machining techniques made parts interchangeable, and their early version of the assembly line made high-quality watches efficient to produce. Legend has it that Henry Ford drew inspiration for his assembly line production from a visit to Waltham's factory. Located on the bank of the Charles River in "Watch City" (Waltham), Massachusetts, the factory has since been converted to apartment lofts.
