Watch Description

What makes the Boston 479 unique: We’re delighted to present this eye-catching and unique watch that was initially released by the American Waltham Watch Company over 100 years ago — the Boston 479. The first feature you may notice on this piece is its striking white dial, which comes with bright, vivid royal-blue numerals and a matching subdial. We also love the subtle cracks and wear that come from the dial to show the true age of this piece. The watch also boasts ornate gold-colored stars that reside between its fine numerals as well as blued-steel heavy moon watch hands. We matched the dial’s remarkable blue details with our Blued Titanium case and topped it off with a gold-plated crown, complementing the dial’s stars. On the back of the watch, you can see its 225-grade open-face movement with a Breguet hairspring, Micrometer regulator, ¾ plate, nickel finish, and pendant setting. The watch’s rear side also showcases luxurious details, such as its gold-plated gears and 17 opulent-looking screw-set jewels. Finally, we equipped this one-of-a-kind watch with our comfortable and stylish Rye leather watch strap, making the final product all the more special.

The American Waltham Watch Company originally manufactured this pocket watch in Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1920 — the same year that the United States established the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee and North Carolina. This national forest is made of 655,598 acres and primarily resides in East Tennessee. A few of the forest’s noteworthy sites include the Ocoee River, Citico Creek Wilderness, Bald River Gorge Wilderness, Big Laurel Branch Wilderness, Big Frog Mountain, and part of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Waltham Watch Company. We call this model "The Boston" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as American Watch Company and American Waltham Watch Company, Waltham was one of the leaders in attempting an entirely new concept, machines making machines. Prior to this, a watchmaker would hand-make each part of a movement one-at-a-time. Operating from 1851-1957, Waltham called its product the "Scientific Watch." Waltham's innovative, precise machining techniques made parts interchangeable, and their early version of the assembly line made high-quality watches efficient to produce. Legend has it that Henry Ford drew inspiration for his assembly line production from a visit to Waltham's factory. Located on the bank of the Charles River in "Watch City" (Waltham), Massachusetts, the factory has since been converted to apartment lofts.
