Watch Description

What makes the Boston 033 unique:

The Boston 033 embodies the refined elegance of late 19th-century American watchmaking. Featuring a crisp white dial with bold black numerals and a striking red minute track, this design emphasizes readability and style. The sub-seconds display at 6 o’clock enhances the dial’s balanced aesthetic, while the sleek blued steel hands add a sophisticated pop of color.

At the core of this timepiece is an original 17-jewel Waltham movement, meticulously restored and dating back to 1896—making this watch one of the oldest conversions in our collection. Waltham’s renowned precision and craftsmanship are preserved in every component of this manual-wind movement, reflecting the brand’s pivotal role in American horology.

Encased in brushed stainless steel with a smooth bezel and a knurled steel crown, the Boston 033 marries vintage charm with modern durability. The camel-colored leather strap complements the polished design, creating a warm, timeless look. Notably, 1896 was the year the Dow Jones Industrial Average was first published, marking a new era of progress and innovation—a fitting parallel to this extraordinary timepiece that honors history while standing the test of time.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Waltham Watch Company. We call this model "The Boston" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as American Watch Company and American Waltham Watch Company, Waltham was one of the leaders in attempting an entirely new concept, machines making machines. Prior to this, a watchmaker would hand-make each part of a movement one-at-a-time. Operating from 1851-1957, Waltham called its product the "Scientific Watch." Waltham's innovative, precise machining techniques made parts interchangeable, and their early version of the assembly line made high-quality watches efficient to produce. Legend has it that Henry Ford drew inspiration for his assembly line production from a visit to Waltham's factory. Located on the bank of the Charles River in "Watch City" (Waltham), Massachusetts, the factory has since been converted to apartment lofts.
