Watch Description

What Makes The Boston 066 Unique:

The Boston 066 is defined by clarity and proportion, centered around a bright, well-preserved enamel dial that feels remarkably intact for its age. The surface remains smooth and even, offering a crisp white backdrop for bold black Arabic numerals that retain their sharp edges and strong contrast. A finely printed minute track encircles the dial, reinforcing its precise, instrument-like layout without adding visual weight. At 6 o’clock, a recessed sub-seconds register introduces depth, its tighter scale and clean markings providing a subtle counterpoint to the openness of the main dial. Blued-steel hands sweep across the surface with a deep, reflective tone, their slender profile adding a sense of lightness and precision to the overall composition.

Inside, this watch is powered by a 17-jewel Waltham movement manufactured in 1918. Through the open caseback, the movement reveals a layered arrangement of finely finished bridges with decorative engraving that catches the light across their surfaces. Polished steel components contrast with gold-toned gears beneath, while the large winding gears create a bold mechanical presence that anchors the composition. The balance assembly remains clearly visible, offering a steady visual rhythm that reflects the movement’s original purpose—consistent, reliable timekeeping in an era where precision was essential.

The watch is housed in our Version 3 stainless steel case, finished with a clean machined surface that introduces a subtle, linear texture across the metal. This finish gives the case a more defined, structured presence, complementing the dial’s clarity rather than competing with it. Unlike its original pocket watch configuration—where the crown would have been positioned at 12 o’clock—the movement has been reoriented within the case, placing the crown at 3 o’clock for a more familiar wristwatch experience. A matching machined bezel frames the dial with restraint, while the machined stainless steel crown provides a confident, tactile grip. The watch is paired with an oxblood cordovan leather strap, whose rich, saturated tone adds warmth and depth to the otherwise monochromatic palette, creating a balanced contrast that feels both refined and intentional.

In 1918, American industry was deeply tied to wartime production, with manufacturers focused on reliability, efficiency, and precision under demanding conditions. Waltham was among the companies producing movements that could be trusted in both civilian and military contexts, built to perform consistently without compromise. The Boston 066 carries that legacy forward, preserving a movement from a time when accuracy was not just appreciated—it was required.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Waltham Watch Company. We call this model "The Boston" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as American Watch Company and American Waltham Watch Company, Waltham was one of the leaders in attempting an entirely new concept, machines making machines. Prior to this, a watchmaker would hand-make each part of a movement one-at-a-time. Operating from 1851-1957, Waltham called its product the "Scientific Watch." Waltham's innovative, precise machining techniques made parts interchangeable, and their early version of the assembly line made high-quality watches efficient to produce. Legend has it that Henry Ford drew inspiration for his assembly line production from a visit to Waltham's factory. Located on the bank of the Charles River in "Watch City" (Waltham), Massachusetts, the factory has since been converted to apartment lofts.
