Watch Description

What makes the Boston 422 unique: Today, we are excited to introduce this remarkable piece from the American Waltham Watch Company — the Boston 422. Originally manufactured in 1925 by Waltham, the Boston 422 features a rustic watch dial, eloquent type numbers, and an open-face back, revealing the intricate, stainless steel gears with gold details. The subtle aging of the watch reminds us how much history this timepiece has experienced. Our Diamond-Like Coating (DLC) case underlines this timepiece with an incredibly durable and scratch-resistant coating and pairs beautifully with the bold, black numbers. A total of 17 jewels power this high-quality, Premier grade masterpiece. Lastly, our Cordovan Black leather strap brings out the cobalt blue hands of this spectacular timepiece. This watch was originally produced in Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1925 — the same year that Scribners published The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Even though Fitzgerald was an atrocious speller and nearly failed out of college, he wrote The Great Gatsby, a novel that captures the 1920s like no other.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Waltham Watch Company. We call this model "The Boston" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as American Watch Company and American Waltham Watch Company, Waltham was one of the leaders in attempting an entirely new concept, machines making machines. Prior to this, a watchmaker would hand-make each part of a movement one-at-a-time. Operating from 1851-1957, Waltham called its product the "Scientific Watch." Waltham's innovative, precise machining techniques made parts interchangeable, and their early version of the assembly line made high-quality watches efficient to produce. Legend has it that Henry Ford drew inspiration for his assembly line production from a visit to Waltham's factory. Located on the bank of the Charles River in "Watch City" (Waltham), Massachusetts, the factory has since been converted to apartment lofts.
