Watch Description

What makes the Boston 461 unique:  Today, we're happy to present a breathtaking antique piece initially produced by the American Waltham Watch Company — the Boston 461. Like all of our stunning wrist watches, we handcrafted the Boston 461 by encasing the original pocket watch in a robust and stylish case. The original pocket watch's dial features stylized black numerals against an intricately-textured light tan background. The front of the piece also showcases a subdial and blued steel heavy moon hour and minute hands. We paired this remarkable pocket watch with our Blued Titanium case and equipped it with a silver crown. Our breathtaking Blued Titanium case features an open back, boasting the pocket watch's 225-grade open-face movement with a ¾ plate. You can view the watch's micrometer regulator, Breguet hairspring, and gold-plated gears as well as 17 screw-set jewels. Finally, we added comfort and more flair to this antique watch by equipping it with our Olive leather watch strap.

The American Waltham Watch Company originally produced the Boston 461's pocket watch in Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1925 — the same year American inventor Richard Gurley Drew created masking tape. Drew invented this groundbreaking tape while working at the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, now the 3M Company. At the time in which Drew joined the 3M Company, it primarily produced sandpaper. He tested the company's Wetordry sandpaper at car shops, where he noticed a common problem: auto shops that painted their cars two different colors — a common style in the 1920s — had a hard time getting the paint perfect at the colors' border. In response, the acclaimed inventor created a light tape that wouldn't damage the car's paint job, enabling auto painters to color vehicles more accurately

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Waltham Watch Company. We call this model "The Boston" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as American Watch Company and American Waltham Watch Company, Waltham was one of the leaders in attempting an entirely new concept, machines making machines. Prior to this, a watchmaker would hand-make each part of a movement one-at-a-time. Operating from 1851-1957, Waltham called its product the "Scientific Watch." Waltham's innovative, precise machining techniques made parts interchangeable, and their early version of the assembly line made high-quality watches efficient to produce. Legend has it that Henry Ford drew inspiration for his assembly line production from a visit to Waltham's factory. Located on the bank of the Charles River in "Watch City" (Waltham), Massachusetts, the factory has since been converted to apartment lofts.
