Watch Description

The Chicago 027 is a special watch we built just for Independence Day! As part of our American Artisan Series, this antique pocket watch movement and dial were originally manufactured by the Elgin Watch Company in the year 1912. This dial stood out to us as a rare and pristine example of hand-decorated grand feu enamel. We thought it deserved a special case, so we made a unique "striped" bezel to go along with the gold "stars" on the dial. This is the first time we've made a bezel like this, and we love how it turned out, especially for this watch. We used a blue strap with a red keeper to go along with our Fourth of July theme.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Elgin Watch Company. We call this model "The Chicago" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as Elgin National Watch Company, Elgin wasn't only the largest watch manufacturer in the United States, but the largest watch manufacturer in the world for almost 100 years, operating from 1864-1964. The company often used a depiction of father time on advertisements. At one point, the company was making 7,500 watch movements per week and had 2,300 employees. The factory was demolished in 1966 and replaced with a shopping center.
