Watch Description

What makes the Chicago 453 unique: Today, we are excited to introduce this remarkable piece from the Elgin National Watch Company — the Chicago 453. Originally manufactured in 1928 by Elgin, the Chicago 453 features a modern single-sunk dial, sleek type numbers, and a clear back, revealing the intricate nickel gears with gold accents. Our Diamond-Like Coating (DLC) case elevates the stylish dial and subdial with an incredibly durable and scratch-resistant coating. Powered by 17 ruby/sapphire jewels in screw settings, this 345-grade timepiece is truly timeless. Lastly, our Black leather strap brings the whole design together, giving the watch a classic, sophisticated look. This remarkable watch was originally produced in Elgin, Illinois, in 1928, when the 1st U.S. air-conditioned building, The Milam Building, opened in San Antonio, Texas.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Elgin Watch Company. We call this model "The Chicago" because of the company's proximity to the city.

Also known as Elgin National Watch Company, Elgin wasn't only the largest watch manufacturer in the United States, but the largest watch manufacturer in the world for almost 100 years, operating from 1864-1964. The company often used a depiction of father time on advertisements. At one point, the company was making 7,500 watch movements per week and had 2,300 employees. The factory was demolished in 1966 and replaced with a shopping center.
