Watch Description

What makes the Lancaster 043 unique: 2024 marks the 110th anniversary of Greyhound Lines, Inc., and the brand remains an American icon of transportation. Like many companies with such a legacy, Greyhound has relied on a dedicated workforce to maintain its quality and reputation through the years. The pocket watch within the Lancaster 043 was once given as a gift of appreciation to a Greyhound employee for 10 years of safe driving — gifts such as these are rare these days, so it's special to see such a token of respect for a job well done. Originally manufactured in 1948 by the Hamilton Watch Company, this 10-size pocket watch with a pristine gold-tinted dial features the Greyhound logo and a written dedication to its honoree. Raised gold numerals and hands match the gold-plated gears of the 17-jewel movement, all of which have been contrasted by our 43mm stainless steel case and crown. We finished this piece with a stitched oxblood cordovan leather strap to complete the distinguished feel worthy of a dedicated employee.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Hamilton Watch Company. We call this model "The Lancaster" because the company was located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Hamilton is named after famous Pennsylvanian Alexander Hamilton and is the result of multiple re-organizations of attempted watch companies in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1892, Hamilton had a reputation for superior quality and maintained half of the railroad watch market share during some of the most prolific years of American railroad history. During World War II, Hamilton was integral to the production of accurate timepieces for the Military. Deemed "the watch that won the war," the company established an employee-run newsletter so that employees turned soldiers could keep up with life at the factory. While the original factory still stands as luxury apartments, the company stopped producing watches in the US in 1969. Hamilton now produces watches in Switzerland and is owned by the Swatch Group.
