Watch Description

What makes the Lancaster 045 unique: We often like to describe the concept of Vortic watches as “a beautiful clash of old and new,” and the Lancaster 045 truly represents that objective. We’ve found and restored a pristine 1927 Hamilton Watch Company pocket watch and brought it into the 21st century as a wearable piece of history — with a little something special. In the light, this clean, single-sunk dial with bold black numerals illustrates what one normally visualizes when thinking of a classic antique pocket watch. But turn the lights off, and this piece is anything but generic. Our watchmaker, Kent, has painstakingly adorned the indices and hands with light green NoctiLumina, a modern — and much safer — version of the luminous paint that originally adorned many of the pocket watches from the early 20th century. To highlight Kent’s meticulous work, we’ve housed this pocket watch in our machined stainless steel case and gave the inner bezel ring a mirror finish to reflect the glow. A stainless steel open case back reveals a high-end 19-jewel movement and a blue leather strap matching the original gothic hands completes the look.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Hamilton Watch Company. We call this model "The Lancaster" because the company was located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Hamilton is named after famous Pennsylvanian Alexander Hamilton and is the result of multiple re-organizations of attempted watch companies in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1892, Hamilton had a reputation for superior quality and maintained half of the railroad watch market share during some of the most prolific years of American railroad history. During World War II, Hamilton was integral to the production of accurate timepieces for the Military. Deemed "the watch that won the war," the company established an employee-run newsletter so that employees turned soldiers could keep up with life at the factory. While the original factory still stands as luxury apartments, the company stopped producing watches in the US in 1969. Hamilton now produces watches in Switzerland and is owned by the Swatch Group.
