Watch Description

What Makes The Lancaster 139 Unique:

The Lancaster 139 highlights the quiet sophistication that defined Hamilton during the height of American pocket watch manufacturing. Built around a 17-jewel Hamilton movement manufactured in 1925, this piece comes from an era when Hamilton had established itself as one of the country's premier makers of precision timekeepers. While the movement delivers the dependable performance collectors expect from the Lancaster factory, it is the remarkable dial that immediately distinguishes this watch from more conventional examples of the period.

The first feature to capture attention is the beautifully engraved center medallion radiating outward in a dramatic sunburst pattern. Delicate floral motifs emerge from the center, adding texture and depth without overwhelming the design. Surrounding this centerpiece is a finely brushed silver dial that has developed a warm champagne patina over the past century, giving the watch remarkable character. Bold stylized Arabic numerals anchor the outer chapter ring, while the original blued spade-and-whip hands sweep elegantly across the dial, creating a striking contrast against the softly aged silver finish. Completing the composition is a recessed sub-seconds register at 6 o'clock, framed by crisp black graduations that preserve the dial's balanced proportions.

Turning the watch over reveals the beautifully finished 17-jewel Hamilton movement beneath the sapphire exhibition crystal. Broad Geneva stripes stretch across the bridges, complemented by polished winding wheels, gold jewel settings, and the exposed balance assembly that showcases the movement's precise mechanical heartbeat. Hamilton's reputation for exceptional finishing is evident throughout, reflecting the company's commitment to producing movements that were as visually refined as they were mechanically reliable.

Vortic houses this historic movement in its lightweight 45mm sandblasted Grade 5 titanium Lancaster case. The matching sandblasted titanium bezel provides a subtle matte texture that complements the aged silver dial, while the machined Grade 5 titanium crown introduces a crisp visual contrast. Paired with an American-made brown leather strap, the overall presentation feels timeless, understated, and exceptionally wearable.

The Lancaster 139 is an outstanding example of Hamilton's ability to blend artistic dial design with precision engineering. Its engraved sunburst center medallion, warm century-old patina, elegant blued hands, and beautifully finished movement create a watch that feels every bit as refined today as it did when it first left Lancaster, Pennsylvania a century ago.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Hamilton Watch Company. We call this model "The Lancaster" because the company was located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Hamilton is named after famous Pennsylvanian Alexander Hamilton and is the result of multiple re-organizations of attempted watch companies in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1892, Hamilton had a reputation for superior quality and maintained half of the railroad watch market share during some of the most prolific years of American railroad history. During World War II, Hamilton was integral to the production of accurate timepieces for the Military. Deemed "the watch that won the war," the company established an employee-run newsletter so that employees turned soldiers could keep up with life at the factory. While the original factory still stands as luxury apartments, the company stopped producing watches in the US in 1969. Hamilton now produces watches in Switzerland and is owned by the Swatch Group.
