Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 072 unique: An eye-catching golden dial is the undisputed star of this week's Vortic conversion. The Art Deco numerals and skeleton kite hands highlight this timepiece's vintage nature, while the sandblasted steel case and crown provide a modern twist. The high-quality full-grain leather strap has a supple texture, and its color perfectly complements the antique heat-blued hands, connecting the past and the present of watchmaking's design and materials.

Our conversion watch movements are always fully serviced by our expert watchmakers and are backed by a one-year warranty. This beautiful 19-jewel movement, originally built in 1921, is in excellent condition and features gold-plated screws, jewel settings, and regulator.

This 103-year-old piece of American history celebrates the craftsmanship and engineering that made the US a hub of horological design and manufacturing in the early 20th century. By preserving and converting this wonderful Illinois pocket watch, we hope to ensure it will be worn and admired for another century and beyond.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
