Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 085 unique:

The Springfield 085 is a testament to masterful craftsmanship, seamlessly combining two distinct tones in both its case and dial. The dial, with its gold-toned center contrasted against a warm silver outer ring, exudes timeless elegance. The worn black numerals, reflecting a century of history, and the blued hands—cut in an open kite design—bring a distinguished flair to this striking piece.

Encased in a polished stainless steel body with a bronze bezel, this watch captures an artful balance between steel’s enduring strength and bronze’s rustic warmth. A knurled stainless steel crown complements the case, while a bronze buckle secures the American-made oxblood leather strap, adding a cohesive finish to the design.

Powering this piece is an original 1922 Illinois Watch Company Autocrat grade movement. Known for its robust design and reliability, the Autocrat was crafted to be a workhorse, often found in high-grade timepieces of the era. This 17-jewel, manual-wind movement features beautifully two-toned plates and intricate engravings visible through the transparent case back. Each tick preserves the legacy of American watchmaking, making the Springfield 085 more than just a timekeeper—it’s a wearable slice of history.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
