Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 116 unique:

A true testament to the elegance and precision of early 20th-century American craftsmanship, The Springfield 116 is a masterpiece reborn. This stunning wristwatch features an original 1924 Illinois Watch Company movement, meticulously restored to preserve its historical integrity. The dial, with its intricate octagonal motif and refined patina, tells a story of timeless sophistication. The black numerals, delicately outlined against the textured silver background, exude vintage charm, while the heat-blued steel hands add a touch of brilliance to the design. A small seconds subdial at six o’clock completes this harmonious composition, capturing the attention of any discerning collector.

At its heart is a 21-jewel manual-wind movement from Illinois Watch Company, revered for its precision and durability. Handcrafted in Springfield, Illinois, this movement is a proud relic of American ingenuity during the golden age of watchmaking. In 1924, as this movement was being produced, the U.S. economy boomed, and technological advancements like the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York captured the nation’s imagination. The Springfield 116 carries this spirit of innovation and celebration into the modern era.

Encased in machined stainless steel with a coin-edge bezel and a knurled crown, The Springfield 116 strikes the perfect balance between durability and refinement. Paired with an American-made tobacco leather strap, its understated elegance ensures versatility for any occasion. From the meticulous craftsmanship to its historical provenance, this watch is not just a timepiece but a legacy on your wrist.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
