Watch Description

The Springfield 360 is the 360th one-of-a-kind piece in Vortic's "Springfield" line of the American Artisan Series. This watch contains the original movement (timepiece), dial (face), and hands from a vintage (1880’s – 1950’s) pocket watch. The American Artisan Series is a line of fully American Made wristwatches powered by restored, U.S. made pocket watch movements.

What makes the Springfield 360 Unique: One of our favorite parts of what we do here at Vortic is preserving the dials and movements we have in our inventory. The wear and tear on dials like the one featured in this watch tell such a story of the life this dial has lived. It's part of why we call our watches "Conversation Pieces". This dial and movement was produced by the Illinois Watch Company in 1923, the same year the NY State Golf Association formed. The art deco style numerals are very fitting for the time period and we love the blue accents! We chose our DLC black case paired with a knurled nickel crown and the limited stock Navy strap. This unique movement has 17jewels and something we have yet to see - an engraving stating "The Leader". We haven't found many references to it so it may have been a custom engraving commissioned for someone in particular! In addition, this movement is a "Double Roller". For those of you who know your way around a movement, the double roller safety action allows for a more efficient engagement between the guard pin and the roller since the roller is of a much smaller diameter.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
