Watch Description

The Springfield 391 is the 391st one-of-a-kind piece in Vortic's "Springfield" line of the American Artisan Series. This watch contains the original movement (timepiece), dial (face), and hands from a vintage (1880’s – 1950’s) pocket watch. The American Artisan Series is a line of fully American Made wristwatches powered by restored, U.S. made pocket watch movements.

What makes the Springfield 391 Unique: For today's watch we bring you the Springfield 391, another incredibly unique and one-of-a-kind watch from the Illinois Watch Company. Every single watch is different in its own special way, and we truly love the age and character that this dial has to offer. A very intricately machined double-sunk dial that is surrounded by off-beat dark black Arabic numerals. We cased this watch in our machined titanium to really make every pop against the dark navy strap. Nickel-plated crown and nickel hardware to match, this watch shows off all the small details while still keeping a simple overall feel. Silver details continue on the inside, with silver hardware all throughout the build plates, as well as a gorgeous horizontal machined pattern. 17 screw-set jewels adorn this movement, as well as double roller escapement and two additional “finger” bridges to hold the 3rd and 4th wheels in place. This watch was originally manufactured in Springfield, Illinois nearly 100 years ago in 1925. The very same year that the popular book The Great Gatsby was published by Charles Scribner’s and Sons in New York City. With the colors and details all throughout this wonderful timepiece, we think this watch would fit in perfectly with the riotous parties depicted in this novel.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
