Watch Description

What makes the Springfield 567 unique: We’re delighted to present this exquisite watch initially produced by the Illinois Watch Company a century ago — the Springfield 567. This stunning antique movement features a simple yet stylish cream-colored dial with thin black numerals. You can also see its eye-catching blued steel diamond kite watch hands and a matching subdial. We encased this elegant pocket watch within our Machined Titanium case and topped it off with a nickel-plated crown, complementing the dial’s color palette. On the watch’s rear side, you can see its 274-grade open-face movement with a Going barrel, nickel finish, and pendant setting. The movement also displays powerful and pleasing gold-plated gears and 21 beautiful jewels throughout its ¾ plate. Finally, we matched this historic watch with our stylish, hand-crafted stout leather watch strap to complete this one-of-a-kind piece

The Illinois Watch Company originally manufactured the Springfield 567’s remarkable pocket watch in Springfield, Illinois, in 1923 — the same year that Willa Cather was awarded the Pulitzer Prize award for her novel One of Ours, becoming the second woman to receive the prestigious recognition. The acclaimed novel follows a young man living off of his father’s success as a farmer. Despite his comfortable living, he fails to find satisfaction and meaning in his life until he joins the US army. The first half of the book takes place in Nebraska, but the book transitions to depicting events in World War I. Part of Cather’s inspiration for the protagonist was G. P. Cather, a member of the U.S. armed forces in the Great War. G. P. Cather was killed in Cantigny, France, in 1918 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and a Silver Star for his bravery.

Movement Manufacturer Information

The movement inside of this watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. We call this model "The Springfield" because the company was located in Springfield, Illinois.

Originally called the Springfield Watch Company, Illinois came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 while the "modern" watch industry was fairly new but highly promising. City officials felt that the addition of industry to the city of Springfield would be excellent for the city's growth. However, after a series of failures and re-brandings, the company had a slow start until 1903 when they decided to manufacture high-quality watches only. Eventually making some of the most beautiful watches of their time, the company sold to Hamilton in 1927. Hamilton continued producing watches under the Illinois name for some time, but the original Springfield factory no longer stands.
