The Springfield 109 (45mm)

Product Description

What Makes The Springfield 109 Unique:

The Springfield 109 draws you in through texture and detail, beginning with a dial that shows both age and artistry in equal measure. The surface carries an even, naturally developed patina, softened by time and accented by a distinctive engraved pattern at the center that catches light in a subtle, almost architectural way. Bold black Arabic numerals provide strong contrast against the aged background, while a clean outer minute track keeps the layout grounded and legible. At 6 o’clock, a traditionally proportioned sub-seconds dial sits neatly within the composition, reinforcing the watch’s balanced, purpose-driven design. We preserved the original blued-steel clover hands, whose rich blue tone and sculpted tips add elegance and warmth as they sweep across the dial.

Inside, the Springfield 109 is powered by a 19-jewel Illinois movement manufactured in 1925. Visible through the open caseback, the movement showcases finely executed finishing that reflects the care Illinois Watch Company invested in both performance and presentation. Polished steel components, gold-plated gears, and carefully placed jewel settings create a visually engaging mechanical layout, offering a clear view into the craftsmanship that defined American watchmaking during this period.

We housed this movement in a machined stainless steel case featuring our angled bezel, a design choice that adds depth and a subtle modern edge without competing with the vintage elements within. The brushed surfaces catch light softly, while the knurled machined-steel crown provides tactile grip and visual continuity with the case. The watch is finished with an ebony leather strap, whose deep tone complements the dial’s patina and reinforces the Springfield 109’s cohesive, understated aesthetic.

In 1925, American manufacturing was undergoing a period of refinement, as watchmakers and industrial designers alike focused on improving finishing techniques while maintaining strict mechanical standards. Companies like Illinois benefited from advances in tooling and process control, allowing them to produce movements that balanced reliability with visual sophistication. The Springfield 109 is a product of that moment—a watch shaped by precision, patience, and enduring design, now preserved on the wrist as a tangible piece of American horological history.
